On July 18, 2010 I flew into Santiago, Chile as part of an 18 person team sponsored by the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Red Cross. Our goal was to bring back lessons learned from the February 27, 2010 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the country.
Over the course of 10 days we met with national, regional, provincial and local officials, thanks to arrangements made by our hosts, the Chilean Red Cross. We also had the opportunity to speak to survivors of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in the impact area. In addition to Sanitago, we visited the cities of Talca, Constitucion, Caquenes, Concepcion, Talchuana and Tumbes.
Our goal now is to distribute what we learned to other emergency managers in the United States.
